The Playground Equipment Hayward is a tall, gradually escalating structure that rewards kids who like to climb. Access comes by way of stairs, a Pod Climber, and a Vertical Ladder, giving children three different routes to the top based on their skill level. Built for ages 5-12 with a capacity of 27-32 kids, a 72" fall height, and a use zone of 24' 9" x 42' 4". Meets ASTM F1487 and CPSC #325 safety standards.
BEST FOR: I'd recommend the Hayward for schools and parks that serve older, more active kids who want a physical challenge. The three different climbing routes create natural difficulty levels, so kids can progress from the stairs to the Pod Climber to the Vertical Ladder as they get stronger and more confident. This is built for the 5-12 crowd that wants to push themselves.
The Playground Equipment Hayward has a design philosophy I appreciate: it gets progressively harder as kids go higher. The stairs are the easy route. The Pod Climber takes more coordination. The Vertical Ladder is for the kids who are ready for a real climb. That graduated difficulty isn't just good for physical development -- it gives kids goals to work toward. I've watched a kid spend an entire recess finally conquering a Vertical Ladder, and you can see the pride on their face when they make it.
The long, narrow use zone -- about 25 by 42 feet -- fits well along a fence line or building edge. The 72" fall height requires surfacing rated for 6 feet, which is standard for school-age structures. At 27-32 kid capacity, this isn't your highest-volume option, but the kids who use it tend to stay on it longer because of the climbing challenges. That said, this is explicitly a 5-12 structure -- don't put it at a site with a lot of toddlers unless you have a separate play area for the little ones.
