The Psagot Playgrounds Organ is the only fully chromatic outdoor instrument I carry. It is laid out like a piano — C major scale on the bottom row, sharps on the top — so kids can play in any key and any Western scale. Ages 2-12, holds 2 players, and comes with a pair of mallets. The frame is recycled HDPE, and the tone bars are chromatically tuned metal.
BEST FOR: If you are putting together a musical garden or sensory play area and you want an instrument that goes beyond pentatonic, this is the one. It lets kids ages 2-12 play songs note-for-note, not just improvise on a limited scale.
Most outdoor instruments I see are pentatonic — five notes, sounds nice, but you can not play an actual song on them. The Psagot Organ gives you every chromatic note laid out in a piano configuration, so a kid who knows "Happy Birthday" or "Twinkle Twinkle" can play it for real, in the correct key. That is a different experience from banging on a five-note xylophone.
I have recommended these for schools where music teachers want to take lessons outside and for parks that want something more substantial than a basic chime set. The tuning holds up well outdoors, and the recycled HDPE frame handles weather without rotting or rusting. For 2 players at once in a 10'-4" square footprint, it is a solid addition to any musical play area.
CAPACITY: 2 children simultaneously, ages 2-12.
