The Psagot Playgrounds Surfer is a surfboard-shaped metal balance platform mounted on a stainless steel bearing. Two kids stand on the board and shift their weight to create a wave-like swinging motion. Ages 5-12, with a 3-foot-2-inch fall height. It turns balance training into something kids want to do rather than something they are told to do.
BEST FOR: Playgrounds looking for a balance element with a strong theme. The surfboard shape makes balance training feel like play rather than exercise, and the two-rider format adds a cooperative challenge that solo balance equipment cannot offer.
The Surfer works because kids do not realize they are doing balance training. They think they are surfing. Two kids stand on the surfboard platform and shift their weight, and the stainless steel bearing translates those shifts into a fluid, wave-like motion. Within a few minutes, they are reading each other's movements and making micro-adjustments — that is proprioception and core stability work disguised as a good time.
The stainless steel bearing is responsive enough that subtle weight shifts produce noticeable motion, which rewards precision over brute force. That is where the developmental value lives. Kids learn to control their bodies in small increments rather than big, sloppy movements.
