The panel gives them more surface area to press against for stability, which makes it less intimidating for newer climbers while still providing a full-body workout for the more experienced ones. Arms, legs, and core all get engaged on the way up.
The compact 12 by 16 foot use zone matches the PE Climbing Wall and Vertical Ladder for footprint, so you can mix and match these structures without reworking your layout.
