The Downtown Bench with Back pairs that distinctive metal-strap design with a full backrest for better comfort. The thin steel straps run across both the seat and back, giving it the striped look that sets the Downtown series apart from the solid-sheet bench styles. I like this option for spaces where the bench needs to look good and feel comfortable at the same time -- the back support makes a difference for people sitting more than a few minutes.
BEST FOR: Downtown parks, streetscapes, and commercial areas where comfort and appearance both matter. The strap design looks more refined than standard steel patterns, and the backrest provides support for longer sitting. A good choice near restaurants, retail areas, or along pedestrian paths where visitors linger.
The Downtown with Back gives you the best of both worlds from this series -- the refined strap design that looks better than standard perforated steel, plus the comfort of a proper backrest. I notice that when benches have backs, people are more willing to sit and stay, which is what you want in areas near shops, restaurants, or gathering spots where foot traffic benefits the space.
The thermoplastic coating on each strap provides the same UV, corrosion, and scratch resistance as the sheet-metal bench models. The powder-coated frame underneath handles the structural load. It is the same proven material system, just shaped differently for a more decorative finish. That said, the strap style does mean slightly more surface area to coat, so these tend to sit in a slightly higher price range than the basic rectangular models.
